Multi-Region Replication
Data and services replicated to geographically separate regions. Replication model (sync/async/semi-sync) matched to workload criticality and RPO targets.
Tiered RTO/RPO
Recovery targets defined per workload tier. Tier 1 (critical): <15 min RTO, near-zero RPO. Tier 2: <1 hour RTO. Tier 3: <4 hours. Tier 4: <24 hours.
Blast Radius Containment
Architecture designed to contain failures within defined boundaries. Bulkhead isolation, circuit breakers, and graceful degradation prevent cascade failures.
Automated Failover
Quorum-based failure detection with automated failover triggers. DNS updates, connection rerouting, and health verification, all automated with human notification.
Recovery Validation
Quarterly Failover Drill
Controlled failover during maintenance window. Recovery time measured. Data integrity verified. Gaps documented and remediated.
Backup Restore Validation
Full restore from backup to isolated environment. Application functionality tested. Restore time measured against RTO targets.
Component Failure Simulation
Targeted failure injection: database node failure, network partition, credential revocation. Validates isolation and graceful degradation.
Full DR Exercise
Comprehensive recovery drill combining multiple failure scenarios. End-to-end validation. Findings documented and reported, with remediation tracked to close.
